The Wedding

It was truly an honor to stand next to Sadie on her wedding day and watch her become Mrs. Huff! However, we are even more excited to continue to cheer both Sadie and Christian on in the coming days, weeks, and years as their beautiful story together unfolds.

As bridesmaids, we thought it might be fun to share some of the highlights from the wedding festivities with you all enjoy! There were truly so many treasured memories from the wedding, however, here are our top 10 stand-out moments!

LETTERS TO SADIE

Leading up to the wedding, Sadie had NO idea that any of her loved ones were writing special letters that were posted on the LO Blog. Each day, she got to read letters of encouragement, reflection, and advice as she and Christian prepared for the big day. Here are some of our favorite quotes from the letters:

THE REHEARSAL DINNER

Christian’s family hosted the most intimate, beautiful, rehearsal dinner. Family and friends gathered at the Robertson’s Farm House barn, which was transformed into an elegant venue for the night. Touches hand-picked by Sadie and Christian lined the tables, including handwritten notes to each one of their guests and gifts for those in their wedding party. A personal favorite was a gift from Sadie to all her bridesmaids, a necklace, from ABLE which most of the girls wore with their dresses on the wedding day. After everyone shared a meal together, family members and friends took turns toasting the couple, sharing fun stories, and sharing their prayers and hopes for the happy couple.

WORSHIP NIGHT

Following the rehearsal dinner, Sadie and Christian invited everyone who was in town for the wedding, out to Camp CH-YO-CA for a night of praise and worship under the stars. Honestly, it was a highlight out of all the wedding festivities. Huddled together to keep warm, a few hundred people gathered together and directed their attention to heaven. I believe it speaks so much to who Sadie and Christian are, that they would spend the night before their wedding, not just seeking the face of God, but inviting everyone to join them in it.

Closing the night, Sadie and Christian took a few moments to share with those who were in attendance that Christian’s brother had decided to get baptized and there were planning to baptize him that night in the camp pool. Those who wanted to stay joined them in celebration of ALL that God was doing and going to do during the weekend.

 THE “CHAPEL”

When Sadie first mentioned that she was going to get married on a tennis court at her parents’ house, it was hard to envision! How could an outdoor tennis court possibly be transformed into a wedding chapeL?! However, like all the things Sadie dreams up, we knew the vision would come to life…as it did. All the tennis equipment and basketball goals were removed, the turf was laid on the ground, and greenery and flowers lined the walls of the tennis court. Lights were strung overhead, creating a starlight canvas which covered the 600+ guests who attended. The result was a romantic and eloquent secret garden.

THE DRESS

You may already know that Sadie said, “Yes, to the Dress” earlier this year at Klienfield in New York City where she found the dress of her dreams. She wore a pure white, timeless, eloquent mermaid fit dress with long gloves and a vail as she walked down the aisle to Christian. However, when it was time to party at the reception she switched into her Sherry Hill party dress and glittered tennis shoes, perfect for dancing the night away. One of the sweetest touches to the day was the display of Sadie’s family wedding dress, which was on display for all to see before the ceremony. Lord willing, one day, Sadie’s wedding dress will be added to the family history and displayed at her daughter’s wedding too.

THE CEREMONY

We’ll be honest, the ceremony wasn’t a fairytale….it was better. With family friend, Louie Giglio, officiating the wedding, he spoke words of life into them and all of those in attendance. As Sadie and Christian committed to one another, they shared vows reflecting not only their deep love for each other but more than that, their mutual love for God.

In addition to the traditional vows led by Louie, they each shared personalized, handwritten vows they wrote for one another. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room. Following the vows, the couple shared their first communion, gathered with their family for prayer, and were pronounced husband and wife.

THE RECEPTION

Constructed in the Robertson’s backyard, a stunning white tent housed the reception. Subtle touches of Sadie and Christian’s favorite things were laced throughout the evening. If you know them, you know they love Iced Mocha Lattes, Gracie’s Milkshake’s, and Mac & Cheese, all of which were in abundance for guests to experience. As you walked into the tent, your eyes instantly caught glimpses of the epic black and white dance checkered dance floor, beautifully lit lanterns, and eloquently decorated table. It was a party from the first moment with the live band that played all night!

THE FIRST DANCE

Sadie and Christian decided months ago that they wanted their first dance to be “Known” by Tauren Wells. Best part, Tauren actually came and performed the song lived! We can confidently say, that this described their love so well. Sadie and Christin have fought to know and love each other so deeply as they prepared for marriage and there was not a better song to start this adventure. In true “Cradie” fashion, all guests received a vinyl of the song as a wedding favor, to remind them that they too are fully known and fully loved.

THE CELEBRATION

Given that one of the most important things to Sadie and Christian is celebration, we knew that this reception would be nothing short of a party. Every guest there was genuinely so eager to celebrate these two tying the knot and what better way to celebrate than to dance?!

The Robertson’s kicked off the party by a surprise choreographed dance, and from there, we danced the night away to the couples’ favorite Bruno Mars songs and so much more!

A highlight was watching Sadie and Christians’s reaction as Alfonzo Ribeiro got up and surprised us all with his rendition of “Billy Jean”. We’re telling you, the place ERUPTED with excitement!

THE SENDOFF

As the night ended, we all got sparklers as headed out to driveway see these two lovebirds off. When we say they were glowing, we mean it (and it wasn’t just from sweating on the dance floor). The Huff’s were filled to the brim with joy, thankfulness, and an overflowing excitement of what was to come in their marriage. We all screamed and waved our sparklers as they hopped in, what else but Sadie’s favorite ride, her Bronco!

Sadie,

When I think about our wedding day, I know that there will be so many emotions, so I hope this letter will help release any nervousness. I want you to know that I love you and you are soon going to hear every reason why you make me the happiest man in the world. And yes it has everything to do with marrying you. You are my best friend and the best teammate, an absolute rock star and the hardest worker I have ever met. I cannot imagine my life without you, you make me a better man every day and are always showing me how to love like Christ. I am so excited to start this journey with you and experience every season of life together.

Babe, we are about to married! Whoa! What? This is crazy. It feels just like yesterday we were making pottery in Nashville and I was telling the lady at the thrift store that you were my sister when she said “you guys are such a cute couple” and I’ll never forget the laugh that you gave me after that. Time flies babe and there isn’t a single thing that I would go back and change.

I am beyond ready to be your husband and for you to be my wife. So thankful for how Jesus has guided us and led us the whole way. What a magical moment we are about to encounter and oh the fruits of the spirit that will be evident in that space at our wedding.

I love doing life alongside of you and uplifting one another in all that we do. When you’re reading this take a break right here and go look at yourself in the mirror and remind yourself of who and whose you are. Now, take a deep breath and be reminded at some of these amazing memories. A year ago from this week was the first time that we told each other we loved one another after you fell asleep on my shoulder watching the movie Masterminds and we realized that we were both really good at sports and made the best team together and would go on to be undefeated for a whole year in tennis and basketball.

This is funny now but wasn’t at the time… do you remember when we had our first argument in the airport in a little convenience store behind the magazine rack because I asked a million questions about our flight and what to do because I was on standby. Then, the guy at the ticket counter ended up giving me a ticket and said “if it means you’ll stop coming up here and annoying me here’s your ticket.”

One of my favorite memories was when I drove to west Monroe to surprise you and got to your house and called you saying “Hey I don’t remember the code to your gate” and you started going crazy and drew a blank forgetting the numbers in the code.

I’ll never forget the night that we were in Franklin at the Franklin Theatre watching Mrs. Doubtfire and the beginning of the movie had no volume, so one the guys recited the first 2 minutes and we laughed and laughed so hard.

When I look back at every memory, I only see you. You are the biggest blessing to my life and I loved getting to make the best memories in the world with my best friend. There are so many other amazing memories we have had but I am afraid this would be a book and not a blog post if I were to write them all out.

Every second I spend with you Sadie is a memory and it is time that I treasure and never take for granted. Thank you for being my person and loving me so beautifully.

Soon, we are about to make a covenant with the Lord and with each other that it is just us for a lifetime. Let’s go make the best memory that’s yet to come thus far and have the biggest celebration of all celebrations. I could not possibly be more excited to see you walk down the aisle, hoping that I don’t stutter every one of my vows because I’ll be so in awe of you. I love you so much. Soak it all in my love, this is happening!

Sadie,

I’ll never get over how cute your hands were when you were little. I promise you’ll understand when you have a baby girl. I would stare in wonder at your tiny hands as the held onto my finger while I fed you. As a toddler I would hold you over the sink to wash your hands, place them under the running water and just marveled at your tiny fingers. I’d look into the mirror with you smiling back and think how amazing and incredible God is to have given you to be mine.

With your deep dimples and spunky personality, you had us all under your spell. You told jokes and did impersonations from the time you could talk, you made up dance moves and put on plays, you organized your siblings to go along with your plans, and were the first to put on a costume to entertain the guests at their birthday parties.

You were always so aware of the feelings of others, and had a crazy understanding of God and Jesus at the time most were just learning their ABC’s. You asked all the questions and never got tired of listening to the answers.  You love God, your family, and others so beautifully and completely.

You have brought me immense joy, wonder and fun.

Now you are all grown up. I’m not sure how that happened, but I see all of those things you were as a child so clearly in the woman you are today. God truly made you an original. He knew all along the things he was preparing you for. Including this moment, the most special of moments, that we are about to celebrate. You’re getting married to the love of your life! Those cute little fingers are about to have a wedding ring on them! You are going to be the most radiant bride.

 

I have been praying for this day since the time you were born. Praying that the man you would marry would be a Jesus follower and a lover of God and His word. That he would be strong and kind, wise and fun-loving, faithful and true; a constant learner, with that perfect combination of confidence and humility that only comes from knowing who he is in God. I prayed that he would cheer you on when you achieve your dreams, and lift you up when you fall, that he would love every single part of you, laugh at your jokes, and light up when you came in the room. I prayed that he would be your best friend and biggest champion.

I asked God to give you someone that would be an amazing dad to your future children; that he would be hardworking and up for adventure, and would show your children what the overflowing love of a good father looks like. That he would lead your family always to the cross with the grace and sacrificial love displayed by Jesus.

I thank God today that you have found that man in Christian! He will not be perfect. He will make mistakes and so will you, but now I pray that when the tough times come you will always find your way back to one another through love, compassion, and forgiveness. That you will never forget the promises you made on this day, and that your love for one another will be a light shining bright in this world, bringing glory to God, because He is love.

I love you dearly, sweet girl! I can’t wait to see you walk down the aisle to begin your life as Mrs. Sadie Huff. I will be there as always cheering you on. I might shed a few tears, but I promise every one of them will be tears of joy and thankfulness for the blessing that your life is to me, that I get to be your mom, and on that day the mother of the most beautiful bride.

Sadie,

Oh my! This is so crazy! I’ve been there for almost everything—from holding the camera while you sang as a toddler to holding your javelin while you tied your shoes before a track meet to braiding your hair for the next basketball game to straightening your costume at Dancing with the Stars to decorating your house as you moved away from us to proudly smiling on the sidelines as you rocked the stage, proclaiming the name of Jesus to thousands, and now, you’re about to get married to the love of your life. I am so happy for you and Christian as you take on the world, no longer relying for your parents or grandparents, but on each other for all of life’s minor and major decision.

Don’t get me wrong—I’m not going anywhere. I will stand solidly in your corner, ready to hold your hand (or braid your hair) when called upon, but you’ve chosen a good man to share your life with and I couldn’t be more thrilled. I know that Christian loves God first, and you second, and that’s perfect because loving God first will always mean Christian will put your needs over anything else in our earthly realm. And, you will do the same for him.

The future is always uncertain, for who can know all the plans of God, but we can often expect a future based on the past. Your past makes me so excited to be a witness to the future. This is not meant to put any pressure on you to top anything you have ever done. Nope, if there is any pressure given it is on God who has set the bar high and exceeded our expectations with His clear direction for your life. He has already taken you places you never dreamed were possible.

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us…” Ephesians 3:20 (NIV)

I love you to the moon and back. I will always be in your corner, cheering you on. I will always pray for your safety and well-being. I will always miss you when you’re gone and be overjoyed when you return. I will always be grateful God chose me to be your grandmother. What an honor!

You will always be my first-born granddaughter, the leader of our pack of little girls and now young women. You’ve done it well and, I have no doubt, will continue to do it well.

May the Lord bless you and keep you and may His face shine upon you and be gracious to you. May He always turn His face toward you and give you peace.

“Sadie, Sadie, Married Lady, that’s ME!”

I once sang this Streisand song, from Funny Girl, to a little girl, who bounced, turned cartwheels and made me laugh with delight because she was so happy. Our amazing Sadie, full of light and brightness, is about to shine brighter, with marriage to the one who makes her glow with being loved! They both bring to this marriage the joy that comes from walking with love and devotion to God. What a beautiful way to begin!

Sadie and Christian, your family cheering squad will be ready when you need us, ask for help, or guidance. You may not think you will need it or want it, until future 2:00 o’clock “feedings” come along, (and they will) when we will gladly comply.

Sister,

It’s not often that a big cousin looks up to her younger cousin, but that’s the truth in our case. I have loved every second of being your big cousin and watching you grow. From my little sidekick when you were young and just loving you so much that it hurt, to this beautiful woman of whom I am so proud. I am honored to be, not only your family, but your friend. I delight in watching you light up every space you walk in to and as you share your joy with everyone you see. You have always been an original. You know who you are, whose you are and you always stick to what you know to be true.

You are about to step into marriage, and I challenge you to think about being “original” in a new light, Gods original design for marriage. His plan for us to live in perfect unity with Him and with one another. We are to honor Him in creating a partnership and grow in your relationship with Him and each other. It isn’t about your happiness, but about spiritual intimacy, learning who God is and what He created relationships to be, becoming more holy. This is actually more satisfying than a self-serving, happiness seeking marriage (not that you won’t experience heaps of happiness along the way!).

It isn’t always easy, but God has given us tools to equip us! He gave us His word, Holy Spirit, and people! Our family has been the greatest resource for me and I pray you will use all of us through your journey. I am so thankful for our big ole family and the legacy of love that has been set before us. I pray that it will continue with us and our generation. But, I KNOW it can’t be done on our own merit (trust me, I’ve been trying for nearly 10 years, ha!).

I do believe the only way for us to continue this Legacy of love is through total dependence on Him and surrendering daily to His plan for marriage.

I am so thankful for Christian in your life and thankful for you in his life. Partnering with someone you love is a true gift in life. Partnering with a purpose-sharing the gospel- is the greatest gift! You are a power couple and I can’t wait to see how the Lord uses you for His Kingdom.
