The Bible speaks positively about adoption, reflecting God’s love and care for those who are adopted. In the New Testament, believers are described as being adopted into God’s family through Jesus Christ. Ephesians 1:5 states, “He predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will.” This verse highlights the intentional and loving nature of God’s choice to adopt believers. Romans 8:15 also emphasizes this spiritual adoption, saying, “The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, ‘Abba, Father.'” These scriptures illustrate that through adoption, believers gain a new identity and relationship with God, mirroring the loving and transformative process of human adoption. Additionally, the Bible shows compassion for orphans and vulnerable children, encouraging care and support for them, as seen in James 1:27: “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”
