Don’t Put God in a Box

It’s easy to say we trust God, but it’s harder to let go of control when the outcome feels uncertain.

This is for anyone who struggles with putting God in a box. Limiting God’s work in our lives can close the door to blessings that look different from what we planned. God isn’t intimidated by bold prayers or risky obedience. He blesses us when we release control, fully surrender and when we trust His character more than our circumstances.

REAL faith begins where comfort ends.

In this season of my life I have never felt more in the wilderness. I say this not because God is distant but because He is actually allowing me to experience divine preparation. I am in the midst of repeating the phrase “time to be comfortable being uncomfortable”.

The wilderness is where God reveals Himself…

In Exodus 16, we see God deliver the Israelites from Egypt, He led them into the wilderness for 40 years. During this time they faced a harsh, unfamiliar land where they experienced hunger, thirst, and uncertainty. The people complained about the lack of food, and God responded by providing manna from heaven each morning, teaching them to trust His daily provision. In Exodus 17, they struggled with thirst, and God miraculously provided water from a rock, showing that even in difficult and dry seasons, He is faithful to meet every need. These chapters show that the wilderness is not a place of abandonment but a place of testing, dependence, and preparation, where God shapes hearts and strengthens faith. I continue to praise His name through this season because He uses the wilderness to develop trust and humility.

His timing is intentional, not delayed.

A little bit about me. I am 24 years old, single and an entrepreneur. At this age and with society it can be easy to feel behind, but God doesn’t rush and He is never late. I have always been a very strong, driven person and after I gave my life to Jesus last April I am continuously reminded He saved me from the darkest valleys so no matter what comes by way I’ve seen Him work miracles in my life, how could I not believe He will come through again and again and again.

My singleness is not a pause but a preparation. My single season is a building season and is about becoming the best Bride of Christ. My career goals do not define me, God loves my creativity, work ethic and ambition. But I have had to learn to stop idolizing

hustle and trust in His perfect timing. I know I’m called, and I’m not anxious about the outcome. I trust that God will elevate me exactly when He knows I can steward it well. My worth is not tied up by a relationship or revenue. Sometimes my box has looked like “This is how I think my life will go”. Trusting Him means knowing His plans are bigger than what I could ever imagine.

Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

What not putting God in a box actually looks like.

Not putting God in a box isn’t just a phrase, it’s a daily surrender, a lifestyle of trust and obeying without fully understanding.

RELEASE CONTROL and let go of timelines.

OBEY His commandments even when you don’t see the whole path.

SURRENDER your heaviest burdens, He can do anything with a surrendered heart.

TRUST God and start celebrating the small wins.

PRAY in the wilderness and get rid of your checklist.

The Bible shows us that when people trusted Him fully and didn’t limit Him, He moved in powerful and unexpected ways. For those that feel they need this reminder, here are a few examples:

1. Joseph

Joseph’s life was full of betrayal, slavery, and imprisonment, but he didn’t box God into only blessing him in comfort. He trusted God, and God worked behind the scenes to bring about something greater. Joseph eventually became second-in-command of Egypt, saving many people, including his own family.

Genesis 50:20: “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.”

2. Esther

Esther could have stayed quiet to stay safe, but she trusted God’s plan and acted boldly. Her courage led to the salvation of her people from destruction, showing how God can use obedience and bravery in ways we can’t imagine.

Esther 4:14–16: “For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?”

3. David

David was the youngest son, just a shepherd boy, yet God chose him to be king. He didn’t let his small status or lack of experience define what God could do. David trusted God, faced Goliath with courage, and God elevated him to leadership.

1 Samuel 16:12–13: “So he sent for him and had him brought in. He was glowing with health and had a fine appearance and handsome features. Then the Lord said, ‘Rise and anoint him; this is the one.’ So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon David.”

If these stories have shown us anything, it’s this: God is not limited by our timelines, expectations, or comfort zones. Joseph, Esther and David all trusted God beyond what made sense to them, and He moved in ways far greater than they could have imagined.

As believers the bible is our source of truth and I hope this inspires you to step out of your comfort zone and ask yourself “am I putting God in a box”? It means letting go of expectations about how, when, and where He will move, and instead believing that His ways are higher than ours.

Isaiah 55:8–9: “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,’ declares the Lord. ‘As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.’”

Don’t Put God in a Box.

Trust Him fully, give Him complete access to your life and watch Him do the impossible.

My name is Sofie Tindall and I live in Tempe, Arizona. I am born and raised from here and have never left. I live a very active lifestyle and love going to the gym, taking workout classes and cooking meals from home. I am also in the process of becoming a certified Pilates instructor. I am very intentional with my time with the Lord in the morning but on the days I want to get out of the house, I am always down for a coffee shop and Bible study date with a friend. As far as side hobbies, I love country dancing. It is very popular in Arizona! Something special to me is my mom and I have been on a faith journey together. We love going to worship concerts and we attended the 2025 Live Original Conference last year for the first time. I watched my mom get baptized at the conference and it truly was a core memory I will cherish forever!
